Joe's KeyMaker 7 USB Diagnostics

Hopefully you will not need to use this, however if you suspect your KM7 has been damaged, this will reassure you that it is not or confirm your worst fears.

Access to Diagnostic is from the main menu, Command 7

 

There are 2 different Diagnostic tests;

Test 1, is for testing all 4 EEPROM signal pins on KM7.

Test 2, is for testing only 2 EEPROM signal pins on KM7.

If test 1 returns FAILED and you are absolutely certain that you have connected the wires for the test correctly [see photos below], then there your KM7 has damaged signal lines, however you may be lucky and some functionality remains.

Only 93C46 EEPROM types need all 4 signals which is what Test 1 checks.

LSI, 24RF08, 24C01 and 24C03 EEPROMS only need 2 signal lines - which is what Test 2 checks.

If both Test 1 and Test 2 fail, the board cannot continue to be used for Password recovery or Clear, it is confirmed damaged, all EEPROM signal pins have suffered some damage, email me to arrange repairs.

If Test 1 returns FAIL and Test 2 returns PASS then the board is damaged but not all signal lines are damaged, you can still use your KM7 to work on LSI, 24RF08, 24C01 and 24C03 EEPROM types but you cannot work with 93C46 EEPROM.

Diagnostic - Test 1

the 4 way cable is used, the end with all wires together in one header is used first, 4 way wire is plugged in over the KM7 I2C connector, RED wire goes over the VCC pin

 

next the single end of the YELLOW wire is plugged in over the pin labeled 3 on the KM7 board

 

next the single end of the WHITE is plugged in over the pin labeled 2 on the KM7 board

 

NOTE: RED and BLACK wire single ends are NOT connected.

We are ready to conduct the test - type in Y for yes

the test can result in PASS

or FAIL

Diagnostic - Test 2

 

The 4 way cable is used, the end with all wires together in one header is used first, 4 way wire is plugged so that only 1 wire, the WHITE wire is plugged in over the KM7 I2C connector's SCL pin.

 

next the single end of the WHITE wire is plugged in over the pin labeled SDA on the KM7 board

 

NOTE: RED, BLACK and yellow wire single ends are NOT connected.

We are ready to conduct the test - type in Y for yes

the test can result in PASS

or FAIL
