All of Joe's KeyMaker 9 USB (KM9USB) are shipped NOT Activated.

KM9USB will do NOTHING useful until it has been activated.

Once you have installed the appropriate USB drivers and Terminal Software for your Operating System of choice you can interact with KeyMaker 9 USB.

Connect your KM9 to a USB port on your computer and switch it ON.

Run your Terminal software.

Unless you have already set and saved these settings;

Select the Port that was allocated to KM9 during the USB Driver installation.

Set up the Serial Port on your Terminal software to;

Baud rate: 115200
Data: 8 bit
Parity: none
Stop: 1 bit
Flow control: none

Save all these setting so you don't have to do this again.

Press the Reset button on KM9USB

You will be greeted with the following screen reminding you that KM9 must be Activated before it will work.

You email your KM9USB Serial Number from the same email address that is registered to the PayPal account, the one you used to purchase your KM9USB.

Send your email to 

 

The KM9 Serial number in the example above is KM946243

Your KM9 Serial number will be a different number as all KM9's have a Unique Serial Number and a Unique Activation Product Key that ONLY works on that Serial Number KM9.

By return email. to your PayPal registered email address. you will receive your unique 8 alpha character Activation Product Code that you can type in at the Initial Activation menu.

Once you have received your Unique Activation Product Code by return email:

you press 8 to select Initial Product Activation

You press 1 to select Initial Activation command

You type in your Unique Activation Product Key

If you type in the correct product key you will see PASS followed by any remaining options that can be Activated with a different (Unique) product key for that option for your KM9 Serial number, the unique product key for your KM9 will ONLY work on your Serial numbered KM9.

in the example above Activation product key DFRMKHQP was typed in and accepted.

if you purchased the KM9PWD Product Key this is were you would enter it.

You can return to this menu from the Main menu at any time.

If you mistype the Activation product key there is a mandatory 5 second delay, then you can try typing in your Product Key again.

Having successfully Activated your KM9 you press 0 to see the Main Menu.

Note: on the Main Menu above, Command 8 is for any remaining options that can be Activated, once KM9PWD AND KM9PRO options have been activated you will no longer see command 8 displayed as there are no remaining Options to Activate.

Activation ONLY needs to be performed once and remains in effect forever.

With your KM9 USB Zap Activated now is a good time to become familiar with how the SVP Zap button works.

It is safe without any EEPROM connected to try the SVP Zap button, it will fail almost immediately and give a short burst of fast flashes on the Green LED which indicates a failed operation, in this case it fails because obviously it can't find an EEPROM since none is connected.

The main menu with the basic KM9USBZ with no options enabled is fairly sparse as the menu ONLY covers further option Activation.

After all the whole idea of the basic KM9 USB Zap is that it will be used without a PC or Laptop therefore the interface is only used for Activation of any other Product keys you may decide to purchase. See further down this page.

Once you have become familiar with your KM9 board and feel confident, it's time to put it to good use.

KM9PWD Activation

The basic KM9USBZ has only 1 Activation option and that is KM9PWD.

Note: the KM9PRO activation option will ONLY appear after KM9PWD has already been activated, the reason being that it makes no sense to Activate KM9PRO without first having KM9PWD Activated.

Back to the Options menu on a KM9USBZ which has been Activated

Type Command 8 

Type Command 2 - type in your KM9PWD Product key

Which when accepted gives your KM9USBZ full KM9 functionality, notice the name changed from KeyMaker 9 Zap to KeyMaker 9.

If you type in the correct product key you will see PASS followed by any remaining options that can be Activated with a different (Unique) product key for that option for your KM9 Serial number, the unique product key for your KM9 will ONLY work on your Serial numbered KM9.

in the example above KM9PWD Activation product key DXNSSRTM was typed in and accepted.

if you purchased the KM9PRO Product Key this is were you would enter it.

You can return to this menu from the Main menu at any time.

Having successfully Activated your KM9 you press 0 to see the full KM9 functionality Main Menu.
